90 Minutes in Heaven

90%20minutes%20in%20heavenI just got done reading 90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper today. I must say, I enjoyed this book much more than I thought. At first I was very skeptical about someone actually dying and going to heaven only to be sent back to earth. Even after reading this book, I really believe it cannot happen. But I am not going to judge or cut down Don Piper just because he believes it happen to him. Even though I don’t really believe it happened in the sense Piper says, I still was encouraged by this book. Only one chapter of the book was really devoted to his 90 minutes in heaven. The rest of the book was about his recovery and how he helped others that went through the same type of recovery he went through.

I think the main theme of this book and what Don Piper learned through his ordeal is what 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 says: “All praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the source of every mercy and the God who comforts us. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” (NLT) Don Piper talks a lot about how he was depressed and angry through his recovery but God comforted him and got him through. And just like this verse says, Piper learned how to help others and comfort others that are going through what he went through.

I believe every situation we go through in life, God has a reason and we need to always use our past troubles and pains to help others because if they are going through something we already went through, we can identify with their pain and comfort them! That is what I got out of this book and I would encourage everyone to take a few days and read this book. To get all the information and details about this book, go to the website. Also, to learn more about Don Piper himself, go to his own personal website here.

If you want to read another great review of the book head on over to Tim Challies blog and read his review. You can read that review here.

Another popular book about this type of thing is Heaven is for Real which tells the account a young boy who claimed he went to heaven. Worth taking a look at if this type of think interests you. Also, I ran across a book called Flight to Heaven that is a pilot’s account of this sort of thing.

  1. You said that you don’t believe that someone can die, go to heaven, and then be sent back to earth. I disagree. Why can’t that happen? If that is part of God’s plan then why can’t it happen? Since God is all powerful then he does have the power to make anything happen. Maybe that person have a greater purpose to serve and it wasn’t his time to go. Maybe his purpose was to die, go to heaven and then come back to earth. Maybe, maybe not. I don’t know, I wasn’t there. But isn’t there a possibility that it really did happen?

  2. It’s a good book and Piper should be congratulated for sharing his Near Death Experience. Only mistake he makes is to jump from hearing songs praising Jesus and meeting fellow Christians in heaven to religious fundamentalism. Research of Near Death Experiences show that there is no evidence to support that heaven is exclusively for Christians, or a narrow interpretation of the Bible, as experiences of heaven happen in all cultures and religions. Cross cultural studies of Near Death Experiences show that the Golden Rule truly means that we must love our neighbor – even if this person is of another faith – and “hell” is not something we can simply throw around when we disagree with people. If you have not fallen asleep in Christ and want to know what people who have Near Death Experiences truly experience in Heaven, have a look at my book Behind 90 Minutes in Heaven.

  3. I totally agree with you! We are not to judge because we as humans have no idea other than what God tells us in Scripture. I think it’s totally possible that he died and went to heaven because he wouldn’t do all this and share his innermost feelings just for publicity. I agree with you one hundrerd percent and good for you for standing up for what you belive!

  4. You knw, have we realised that what happends all around us is just the work of the devil, evil mirraculous things that gose on around us, which is proved acording to testimonies of people who were held captured by th devil en did great evil things amongst nations, all this reviews the power of satan, en so our God also wants to show how strong and mighty he is and also wants us to know and never dought that hell and heaven is real, so he takes us, his people, and shows us and let others know.
In the bible he sad it clearly that he is God and is mighty en powerfull.

  5. My 19 yr old son just passed a month ago from cancer. The last four days he was here with us he was also passing over the threshold to heaven. He spoke very vividly about what he was seeing. He described a lot of the same things that I just read in this book. My son was brilliant at describing things. I for one believe without a doubt that this book was a true story.
