Parent Resource: Twerking
Some people hear “twerking” and know exactly what it is. However, many people, especially parents of teens, may not know what twerking is. If your a parent of a teen you need to know what twerking is. Twerking is a dance move that is becoming more and more popular in music and in music videos. It’s being referenced and done more and more by pop stars, including Miley Cyrus at this years VMAS, and it becoming popular in YouTube videos posted by teens, especially teen girls. It has made it’s way into teen culture and no doubt twerking has been and is being done at school dances.
Why do parents need to know about twerking? First, your teens have already heard about it and probably have seen it multiple times. As a parent, you need to be aware of what they have been and are being exposed to. Second, you need to have a talk with your teen about twerking, especially if you have a teen girl. Teen girls need to know there isn’t anything good that comes out of twerking. It’s a way to get attention from guys in all the wrong ways and it’s sexually immoral behavior that the Bible speaks about (1 Corinthians 6:12-20; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5). To help parents understand what twerking is I want to share a resource that I believe is helpful to parents of teens who want to understand twerking.
Walt Mueller and CPYU have created helpful resource called Tredn Alert: Twerking. In this resource, Walt Mueller shares insights and thoughts on twerking that’s very helpful for parents of teens. Click the link below to view and download this resource.
